2001 is a body of work which wrestles with the contradictions, challenges, boredom and self loathing of growing up in suburban Australia. Shot on medium format film, the body of work makes extensive reference to cinema and television as specific factors that influence how we view our own youth. Bombarded with these Americanised, romanticised, faux nostalgic and fetishised depictions of growing up, how can our own experiences ever possibly live up the expectations created by what we see in cinema?
